Weekends without TV.

I was away to my colleague's house in Malaysia on Friday night and was only home on the Saturday afternoon.

While waiting for the lift of my block, Mum, Brother and his girlfriend appeared.
A disaster had been revealed to me, on the spot.

My one and only TV set in the house is down !

Disastrous !

Because Grandma, will be bored. (Watching TV was her best companion and entertainment.)
The family will be much quieter, as we won't get to watch the Taiwan drama, together. (Insert Sad Face.)

Anyway, the new one will be coming in on Monday.

Early Christmas present for the house!!

However, the Samsung S II i am aiming is out of stock! I am still waiting for my Christmas present. =P

The coming two weeks might be super busy at work due to company Year End closing.

Declared Down in the last month of Year 2011

Hong Wei fell sick.
The usual coughing and sneezing of that running nose.

Thank you all for the concerns on Facebook, Twitter. Was on two days medical leave, will be back to work tomorrow! ( However still thinking if i were to attend the bbq event on Friday... should i go? )

Many years back, during my army days, i was lucky to win a pair of tickets(went with my girlfriend of that time) to a mini concert of her and 江美琪.

My Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2011 (4th Dec 2011)

Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2011, my final 10km run of Year 2011. 

Without much training, i faced the run and was honestly walking towards the last 3km of the run.

The left knee felt pain. (Too much beer and wine. Hee..)

Good job, i still managed to jog through the final 100 metres of the race!

The "Human Jam" started early this year. 

We had to go through this narrow pathway of the steel bridge to get to the starting point. (Time taken : estimated 30mins+)

My run started 8am instead of the scheduled 7:15am. 

By the way usually there are entertainments along the route to motivate runners but this year, be it sexy belly-dancers, cute little girls cheering.. i din really see much of them this year?

Whatever it is, I happened to see this dressed in red "Chun Li" at the start point, whom i greeted : ” 美女，早! “ (In English : Good morning,babe!)

Overall, a good run!

Rewarded myself with this. 

=)

Lastly, do your best, enjoy and dont push yourself too much! The news just now reported of a 21 years old man died after completing the half-marathon.

The Good Beer Company of Chinatown Complex Food Centre

That night, a few of us twitter friends gathered up at The Good Beer Company at Chinatown Complex Food Centre.

Located at Blk 335 Smith Street #02-58 Chinatown Complex, Singapore, Singapore 050335 , it was a great hang out for beer lovers..  as they are selling a range of premium and craft beers and ciders..

Beside it was a stall that had this very nice garlic steam fishhead..


And with my favourite claypot rice from another nearby stall...


The four of us, were so full !! =)

However this did not stop us from having the beer there.
Personally i took two. ( So little right? )





If you are interested in beer and would like to try out the many different kinds of beer they have...
Do gather a few friends and head over to Chinatown !

Christmas mood..

Let's get into the Christmas mood, its less than a month already ! =P

BookFest 2011

After sleeping half an Saturday away, i headed out with my friends, to Suntec City for BookFest 2011. 

It was an event by Popular, therefore there were books, and also stationary being on sale.

Was there last year, already expected the crowd, but this time was there on a Mission. 

It was really crowded that baskets for us to put what we wanted to buy were all being used up. (WOW.)

Saw this GIANT eraser, but then later found out it was actually the outer box for the smaller pieces of eraser.

 

And also this robot (Sorry i dont know what is this...), it was being displayed at the area selling some robot toys..

And after an almost 3 hours walking around the halls.. and 1 hour queuing to do the payment... these was what i bought. 

To reward ourself, we had 擂茶 for dinner !!

And, what was the Mission i was talking about ?

It was this !

It's been a busy week, feel so sleepy and tired, i slept half the Saturday away! =P

Penny Dai, one of my favourite singer and songwriter, has a new song !

Named, 光著我的腳ㄚ子, it also can be translated into "Baring My Feet". How comfortable it is to bear your feet and walk on the grass ? Come to think of it, nowadays do out kids or even ourself have more interaction with the nature?

Everyday, what we see are, concrete walls. =)

Taiwan Pineapple Shortcake in Singapore

Have you even eaten 鳳梨酥 or Pineapple Shortcakes from Taiwan?

They are nicely packed, a great gift for friends and relatives.
I also bought some while i visited Taiwan in July this year..

Today, while surfing around on Youtube, i came across this video.



It seems like Taiwan Pineapple Shortcakes are available in Singapore's Raffles Hotel !

My first thought : having a store at this place, the rental must be expensive and therefore the price of the items too.
Anyway, hope to see more Taiwan food here!

After the post in September, i finally watched this movie today !

Reminded me of the school days..

Reminded us not to miss out the chance to confess to someone you like..

If time can go back in the movie, im hope the male character will confess to the female character, openly.. 

My favourite line :

R.I.P 許冠英, Ricky Hui

HK comedy veteran Ricky Hui dies at 65 - Channel NewsAsia

Ricky Hui or 許冠英 passed away on the 8 November 2011, of a heart attack.



He was the blur, yet cute guy beside the Lam Ching-ying (林正英), who played the Master in 殭屍先生.
Lam died in 1997 of liver cancer, and also on 8 November. 

RIP, to both.

It seems like many of the stars of my generation or whom i know are dead. 

I am sad.

Christmas, of course!!! =D




Christmas was made all the more special by the mysterious visit of this big friendly old man in red who would leave a sack full of presents.

But then, Mr Santa Claus, Singapore got no chimmy for you to climb into, would you mind using the rubbish chute Main Door ? =P

Anyway, usually i would buy myself a Christmas present for myself, almost every year..
Two years ago, i got myself an iphone 3Gs, but it broke down after a year plus, due to me, partially. (Post Here)

Since my mobile contract expires December 2011, time to get myself a new phone.

Today Grandma reminded ....

Today, like a regular event, brother's girlfriend came over the house for lunch..

As i was rushing out to meet my friends, i went out straight after lunch.

While i was wearing my shoes, Grandma, sitting at her favourite spot of the sofa..
Suddenly said : "Ah Wei ah... Time to go find a girlfriend already..."
I was shocked, as this was first time she said this to me, so i only smiled back saying : "Yes, am trying hard.."
And, rushed out of the house.

She was not the only one in the family "hinting" me.. anyway.. (Mum, Uncles, Aunties..)

With another wedding dinner of a classmate on coming Monday, what Grandma said to me keep repeating in my mind.

Not that i din work hard, alright...
Many years back, i did bring a girlfriend home.. but broke up with her.
During Army days, there was another girlfriend, which she broke up with me..
Both relationship was less than a year.

Anyway, the both ex-girlfriends are doing good and got married, in which i am happy for them too. =)

And Fate stopped there. (Since year 2000? Lost count too...)

Let nature take its course, Hong Wei.

Some things, cannot rush one... Right?

The brave little Charmaine.

Back in 2009, newspaper reported of a little girl, Charmaine, who has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, being in the 4th stage and fighting hard.

There was some group and organizations, working hard to do fundraising for the little Charmaine and the mother, Cynthia.

Her medical expense, family expense..

I did donated some, too.

2 years battling with Cancer..

However it seems her condition got worse recently..

And on 21 Oct 2011, her blog came out a posting,
With the subject : Char is flying free...

She is pain free and she gave us her parting smile.

Titanium Bracelet

On the packaging, it wrote : It can work on areas with poor blood circulation, to relieve shoulder discomfort, fatigue and stress, etc..

I not sure if it works.. Since it was not expensive, ($2 from Daiso) so i bought it.

=)

I heard of this before, but was not really convinced by it.. =x

Anyway decided to give it a try. 

If it's good, i shall buy for mum, who always complain of the knees, and legs aching..

Me : Nope, i could not squeeze out of the MRT when the station reached.. so i send my colleagues home, took the train back from Marsiling..
Mama : Why din you say excuse me ?
Me: We were so packed in the train, Mama..
Mama : Wah, now train so packed meh??
Me : It is, Mama..

I think she forgot i showed her this, last night.

You don't need to squeeze, people push you into the train.

I finally watch the movie : Johnny English, Reborn, last evening.


I started laughing the moment i see Rowan Atkinson, i started laughing. HAHA!
Please go watch it, as it really very funny. =)

And owing Ms Sheila, a super belated birthday of more than a year, i decided to buy her dinner.
She suggested eating Sakae Teppanyaki, i was for it too, as i had not eaten it before. HAHA!

We were so hungry, and engrossed in catching up and forgot to take photos of the food.

However!

I took one, with the chef "performing" in front of us. 

HEE..

It was my first time eating Teppanyaki, having the chef cooking in front of us, and it was like a magician performing magic.. I enjoy it, and the food. =)

The survey..

Last month, brother told me someone from Ministry of Manpower Singapore (MOM) called, about a survey.

Might be a one time survey, i am thinking.... (so be it.)

Yet, i am wrong!
Today someone called again, and the anxious parents, knowing it was a call from Government sector, panicked. With their limited English words, they asked the person to call later, when i get home from work.

Indeed, a guy called. At 9:30pm.

First thing i asked him : "So late you all still working ah??"

Anyway from the about 15 minutes phone conversation (and me teasing him), i realized the survey had to be done 6 months, and on monthly basis.

To minimize the parents from being panicked, i requested the next month to call to my mobile phone.

Every month same questions.

Why made my parents panick.

Curiosity paid off..

Was at Jurong Point Shopping centre on Sunday afternoon with my friend. 

We walked past NTUC fairprice, and saw a long queue. 

Being the typical Kaypo Singaporean, we joined in the queue(Without knowing what it is for.)
A sweet young girl, passed us a piece of note, asking us to fill in our particulars and some wishes to our Team Singapore, for the 26th SEA Games live in Indonesia!

That's all we need to do!!

The busy week.. and upcoming..

It was the company Quarter End closing, a busy period of the work place.

Emails, Calls, keep coming in.
With the left hand on the Phone, and right hand clicking the mouse.
I survived while coughing away in the office. (I am still coughing now..)

Yes, i admit, the guy was not THAT handsome. However, from what i see, the couple was happy together. Although people will always associate the 帅哥配美女 (Handsome guy & Pretty girl) idea in them.. there are still people who are not so particular with the outlook of a person. 

Being a couple, they should be happy together, as the two of them might be there with each other as partner for the rest of their life!

Come on, people!

Stop gauging people, or couple by their outlooks.

Look at their characters, behaviours, and inner beauty.

Being ugly, or not that handsome is not end of the world.

Dr Ong Chit Chung

This afternoon, television, Channel 8 showed a documentary showing Dr Ong Chit Chung, and his family.

In case you don't know about him, Dr Ong was a Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC, which is the place im staying. 

Quoted from an article from ST:

Dr Ong, a five-term MP, was very diligent about his Meet-The-People sessions, said Mr Chan Wee Lee, a Jurong town council manager in charge of Bukit Batok since 2001. 

'He'd make sure he saw all the residents personally. He'd come around 8pm and go home around midnight,' said Mr Chan, 41.

Like the other grassroots leaders, he ticked off a list of projects Dr Ong had implemented for his constituents.

In 2001, he introduced free daily dinners for about 100 needy people.

He started a bursary scheme for about 200 to 300 students from lower-income families who did not qualify for Edusave bursaries. which give $150 to $400 to students with good grades from lower-income homes.

Last year, he had 10 plasma TV sets, each 43-inch wide, installed at senior citizen's corners.

However he passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2008.

He was 59 years old.

He contributed a lot in making Bukit Batok, the place i am staying now, so well maintained.
And came up with the idea of having a large screen projector whereby residents of this area can enjoy a movie night together, under the moonlight.

According to mum, during a house visiting session, he actually came into our house and talked to us, i had not much memories of this, but seeing him at a few events within the neighbourhood.. to me, he was a humble and helpful man.

This was further confirmed from the aunties and uncles whom Dr Ong helped when he was the MP. 

One mentioned he was very friendly.

The other said he was so helpful, and very "people-oriented"

Great man. 

And it has been 3 years, since you left this world.

Life is short, and unpredictable. Live everyday happily.

Finding Princess Froggy..

As we advance or get commercialized , many things and buildings changes. The environment changes too.
During our parent's generation, they can run around in farms, and going all around to catch fishes, spiders.Their hands and feet touches the nature almost everyday.

All they see are things of nature : the trees, the green grass, the nice blue skies.

Nowadays, it is tough to find place that can bring us nearer to nature.

Let me introduce you an interesting place.

It is called the Jurong Frog Farm. (Website)

Located at Lim Chu Kang area, it is the only frog breeder in Singapore and a member of the Kranji Countryside Association.It is an eye opener to those who have never seen thousands of frogs croaking and feeding at the same time.

They have guided tours which are filled with fun facts about the frog's characteristics, habitat, mating habits and conservation. The hands-on-the-frog session is literal- here is where you’ll get to touch the skin of the frog and wonder at its softness.

We only learn about frogs, of how they grow from a tadpole, to a frog. Now, at Jurong Frog Farm, you can actually get to touch them!! Hands on, hor!! =)

How to get there (By public transport)

1. Bus 975 ( Board bus from BUS STOP OPPOSITE LOT 1, CCK, there will be a 10 mins walk from the bus stop into Lane 6; look out for lamp post 42)
2. Kranji EXpress Shuttle ( KRANJI MRT, from 9am, every 1.5 hourly)

The sweet girl from Thailand..

My new colleagues are a group of people, who can talk about almost everything under the sun. At a lunch one day, they started telling me to get a Thailand girlfriend, since i am handling the Thailand account of the company..

And coincidently, while surfing Youtube, i came across this video, with a very sweet girl in the video..



I could not understand what she was singing... luckily some kind person actually translated it to chinese!

Date of Birth: 26 August 1986
And a nickname of : Newwy (LOL)

The poor maid..

Last night, i was having dinner with my friends..
Suddenly we notice a girl standing beside the table of the table behind us.

It was the maid of a family.

She (The Arrowed) was standing beside the table, while the employer (The Circled) was sitting down and eating.

"How can they do that!!" Our whole table screamed.. and started commenting on it, while i took this picture..

And with all this talking, the guy did not ask the poor girl to sit, and eat together with the family.. he even asked her to clean up the table.. (By the way, we are at Sakae Sushi restaurant.) She was there, standing, and looking at the guy, eating..

Either he "act blur" and did not hear our loud comments, or he could not understand English. *winks*

I feel angry and sad seeing this situation. 

Human Rights.

I don't have maid at home, and if i have, i will treat her like a human too.

We employ her to help out in the domestic chores, not as slaves!

And if i become maid someday, i don't want to be treated like this too.. can i?
